Tsum Serang Gompa Kaltal Trek – Overview
The Tsum Serang Gompa Kaltal Trek is a remarkable journey into one of Nepal’s most remote and culturally preserved Himalayan regions. Nestled beneath the Sringi Himal, Ganesh Himal, and Buddha Himal ranges, Tsum Valley is renowned for its dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient Buddhist monasteries, traditional villages, and warm local hospitality.
Recognised as a Beyul, or sacred hidden valley, Tsum remained closed to foreign visitors until 2008, helping preserve its distinctive Tibetan Buddhist heritage, spiritual traditions, and centuries-old customs. Along the trail, you will discover intricately carved mani walls, prayer flags, traditional stone houses, and monasteries that reflect the deep-rooted Buddhist culture of the Tsumba people. The region’s natural beauty is equally captivating, with forested hills, alpine pastures, remote mountain viewpoints, and opportunities to encounter native Himalayan wildlife.
Beyond Upper Tsum Valley and the sacred Mu Gompa monastery, this trek ventures toward Gumba Lungdang, with an excursion to Ganesh Himal Base Camp, before continuing to the peaceful Serang Gompa in the Manaslu region. The journey also includes an exploration of Kaltal Lake near Prok, offering a rewarding combination of alpine scenery and panoramic mountain views.
Combining high-altitude adventure, spiritual discovery, and authentic encounters with Himalayan communities, the Tsum Serang Gompa Kaltal Trek offers an immersive experience far from Nepal’s busier trekking routes. It is an ideal journey for travellers seeking a deeper connection with the landscapes, cultures, and living traditions of the Himalayas.
